Batman [edit]
- [his inner voice, the true Batman, taunting him] The fourth dimension has come. You know it. In your heed. In your heart. In your soul. Y'all tried to concord me back. Merely you can't, Bruce. You lot're weak. You're a shell. A rusty trap that cannot hold me. Let it go. Let me OUT .
- You don't get it, son. This isn't a mudhole... It's an operating table. And I'yard the surgeon.
- Pull that trigger... and I'll be dorsum for yous.
- There'due south just the sun, and the sky, and him, similar he's the only reason it's all here. Then, he ruins everything by talking.
- It's a .45 Quotient Bullet. Hollow point. It explodes in his breast. I experience the shock through his fingers. For the thousandth time... My father dies.
- Clark, you bastard. You let them practice it. I always knew you would. Maybe during breaks between police actions, i of your military friends told yous what an electromagnetic pulse is. And mayhap you listened, Clark. All you need to generate the pulse is the detonation of a few dozen nuclear warheads. That, or a special kind of nuke that both sides have been trying to develop... Yes, Clark. Both sides. The American proper name for it is Coldbringer. It is designed to cause maximum damage to the environment -- all the while sparing the industrial sites your friends regard so highly. Since my own atoms aren't bouncing around the stratosphere -- since Gotham City squats similar a smashing black graveyard -- since Wayne Estate's emergency generator hasn't kicked in -- and Robin's watch has stopped -- I'll presume Russia has taken the lead in the arms race. I continue track of these things, Clark. One of us had to.
- The dump. It'southward a breeding ground for insects and rodents. Some rodents fly.
- This evening, if you are indeed with me, if you all mean information technology, and then together, we restore constabulary & order to Gotham City. And nosotros won't do it-- (holds up rifle) --using this. This loud, impuissant, stupid thing-- This is the weapon of the enemy. We do not demand it. We will non use it. (snaps the gun's butt off where it connects to the chamber, and draws 3 batarangs nested betwixt his fingers) But my weapons? They are tranquillity -- precise. In time, If y'all evidence yourselves to me, demonstrate if you're deserving, worthy to stand by my side, I'll see fit to teach them to you. But not this night. Tonight, you'll rely on your fists-- and your brains. Tonight, we are the law. This evening, I am the constabulary. Permit's ride.
- You gotten far too used to being a god, Clark. It'due south way by time y'all learned what it means to be a human being. It's time you remember what it is to drain.
- Information technology wasn't easy to make. Took years and toll a fortune. Luckily, I had both.
- Want to know something, Clark? Y'all were right. What you said earlier. We didn't have to do this. Nosotros should take been irresolute the globe... inspiring people to be meliorate than what they are... we were heroes... When we were immature. When it counted. When people knew what was skilful for them. When people appreciated the efforts of the selfless. And look at us at present...I've go a political liability, an overcapable embarrassment to a self-serving, malicious, incompetent arrangement, themselves an embarrassment ...and you...yous're their tool...you've become a joke... a gullible ignorant instrument of that organisation... You preach to me about letting the past go, and still you yourself won't. Because the mighty Superman is merely and so perfect he thinks he knows what'southward best. If that were true, Clark...you'd exist at my side, equally we were before. When nosotros were young. We were friends once upon a time, merely that ship sailed when y'all put your judgement in these weak, complacent wretches. In the greedy. When y'all threw your lot in with the perpetuators of disorder and ill intent. And you had the gall to lecture me, trying to intimidate me, simply because they asked you to. They've made you weak. But y'all didn't have to be. Lois, Jimmy, Perry, your parents? They'd all be ashamed of what you are now. Only, I didn't accept to go piece of cake on yous...a different binding agent...a potent mix...no I wanted y'all to stay out of my way...I wanted y'all to remember, Clark...In all the years to come... in your nearly individual moments... I want you to retrieve what it means to be human... I desire you to recollect my hand at your throat... I want y'all to think the 1 man who beat you.
- My timing wasn't quite precise enough. Clark heard. That was the first thing Robin told me when she dug me up. Not that information technology mattered. He'd accept guessed sooner or later on. He knows how good I am with chemicals. I was counting on what Oliver said, and with a flash, Clark proved Oliver correct. He'll leave me alone now. In return, I'll stay placidity. So will Robin and the rest... we have as many years as we demand... years - to written report, to train, to program... hither, in the endless cavern, far past the burnt remains of a crimefighter whose time has long passed - it begins here, an army - to bring sense to a world plagued by worse than thieves and murderers... this will be a good life. Good enough.
Superman [edit]
- Bruce, you bounder. You'll ruin everything. For all of us. I always knew you would... The remainder of us learned to cope. The rest of us recognized the danger--of the endless envy of those not similar us. The normal people. The weak. Diana went back to her people. Hal went to the stars. And I accept walked the razor's edge for so long... But you, Bruce--you, with your wild obsession. Yous never learned to let it all go. They'll kill us if they can, Bruce. Every twelvemonth they grow smaller. Every year they detest us more. We must not remind them that giants walk the globe. You were the one they used against usa, Bruce. The one who played it rough. When the noise started from the parents' groups and the subcommittee called us in for questioning... You were the ane who laughed that scary laugh of yours... "Sure, nosotros're criminals," you said. "We've always been criminals. We accept to be criminals." We almost threw a political party when you retired. Past then, the PBI was in it and things were getting out of mitt. And then there was that trouble with Oliver. Do you lot call up why you retired, Bruce? No -- Just wait at yous -- You lot'd exercise information technology once more -- And like a murderer, y'all'd cover it up again. Nothing matters to you except your holy war. They were because their options and you lot were probably still laughing when nosotros came to terms. I gave them my obedience and my invisibility. They gave me a license and permit the states alive. No, I don't similar it. But I become to save lives -- and the media stays placidity. But now the tempest is growing over again -- They'll hunt us down -- Because of you.
- Xx million die past nuclear fire if I am weak.
- "Harmlessly.." The woman... on television... She said the bomb would detonateharmlessly... You cannot touch my planet without destroying something precious. Even her deserts are abundant.
- Our people, Bruce. Yous laugh at them. They can do this... And you express mirth...
- You have every reason to be outraged, Female parent World. You have given them everything. They are tiny and stupid and fell but please, listen to them.
- I have always loved you lot. Though I was born a milky way away, I have always served you lot. The same ability, the sun'south ability, fuels us both. You hold information technology here, yous shop information technology... I beg y'all. For a suffering world, release it...
- You are... And so generous... You give me... Your beautiful jungle. I swear... your adopted son volition honor yous.
- Bruce, why can't you understand? This is idiotic. This whole thing is a waste of time! This is exactly what I didn't want to do. This is why they're afraid of u.s.! This is why we are where we are at present.
The Joker [edit]
- Batman. Darling.
- I should sleep. I'll be fresh tomorrow. Because tomorrow I get free, and so it's time for my last show.
- No more? Oh, but there volition be more than, Batsy. There will always exist more. I could never take plenty. They could put me in a helicopter and fly me up into the air and line upwards the bodies head to toe on the ground in delightful geometric patterns like an endless June Taylor trip the light fantastic routine — Fifty-fifty then, Bats, it wouldn't exist plenty. It never will be. Not until we cease information technology. Not until you break or I practice. And it'due south finally come. The moment we've both dreamed about.
- [He slashes at Batman's abs, making a deep slice, causing him to keel over into the water. Joker's immediately on peak of him, kept from driving the pocketknife in his eye by Batman's artillery desperately blocking it]
- Oh come on, don't tell me you're gonna fall asleep at the moment of truth. My my, Bruce, yous have gotten old, haven't you?
- No, I don't continue count. But you do. And I honey you for it.
- Yous're in trouble now. Become ahead, Batman. Say you've never wanted this to happen. Say yous wish there'd been some other style. We both know it'd be bullshit though, correct? No, yous've dreamt of this moment. Been waiting for the right time, the right excuse. The perfect opportunity. The best part well-nigh it is, I notwithstanding won. Considering I finally made you lose control. Fabricated you lot interruption your 1 rule. And now, the civilized people you lot've struggled to protect? They're going to hunt y'all for this. Chase you similar a dog. They're gonna kill you, Brucie. And when they take, I'll exist waiting with open artillery....out the gates of Gotham and plunging into the gates of Hell!
- [cackles loudly as he twisted his neck farther, completely snapping his cervix and killing himself, his mouth hanging open up in a macabre rictus grin, seemingly mocking Batman in death]
Others [edit]
- Commissioner Gordon: All I have to do is think about Sarah. It makes the residual of information technology like shooting fish in a barrel. She'due south made it worth information technology. Her and our girl. Barbara.
- Robin: It only happened in one case. Only once in the whole night that it showed. He'd given the orders and all the Mutants and the Sons and everybody is gone for a minute. And during it, I defenseless it. He but sagged in his saddle like an old man. I could see information technology for but that one moment. The weight of it all on him. The fatigue. Peradventure fifty-fifty a smidge of doubt? Hell, fearfulness? Then he straightened up and grinned at me, similar it was a joke. He can't die...or he only won't. I don't think he ever learned how to. But why would he? A man like him? Then certain and passionate about what he does? He'll live forever. That I know for certain.
- Commissioner Yindel: No. No. He's too big. God, he'southward SO large.
- Alfred (final thoughts, simply earlier dying of a stroke after destroying Wayne Manor) Of form. How utterly proper.

- Officer: Shut upward.
- Mutant Leader: Simply asking, officer. I dear kids.

- Batman: I'm busy tonight. You lot've just cost me hours. Tomorrow morning. My identify. Stay out of my way until then.
- Clark Kent: You lot're not a young man anymore, Bruce. Possibly if you'd learned to slow down... Find your niche... But times accept changed, and you-- Well, information technology'southward just not healthy. You'll burn yourself up.
- [Bruce offers him a smug grin.]
- Clark Kent: I know, I know, you expect better than you take in years, but... You're going to make me come up correct out and say it, aren't you?
- Bruce Wayne: Nobody tin can make you practice anything you don't want to, Clark.

- Alfred: ...I shall come right out with it. Have yous forgotten what happened to Main Todd?
- Batman: I will never forget Jason. He was a practiced soldier. He honored me. But the war goes on.
